Author

Dr. Vithal Das Modi (1912 – 2000) was a widely respected pioneer in field of Naturopathy who robustly promoted and championed natural form of medicine and healing based on the principles enshrined in the Vedas and other ancient Indian texts.

An alumnus of Banaras Hindu University, Dr. Modi was the founder-director of Arogya Mandir – Nature Cure Hospital and Gorakhpur School of Natural Therapeutics, both located in Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh, and a consultant to Dr Modi’s Karjat Health Resort.

He headed the All India Nature Cure Council for three consecutive terms and was also the Vice President of Nature Cure Council, Government of India, a body dedicated to research in Naturopathy and was a member of the Committee for formulating the syllabus for collegiate training in Nature Cure.

A Professor Emeritus at the Gandhi Nature Cure College, Hyderabad, he was a multi-faceted personality: a naturopath, a litterateur, a philanthropist and a teacher of 'Vipassanā' meditation.

He edited Arogya — a monthly magazine on health — for over fifty years, and authored numerous books, including the widely acclaimed Rogon ki Saral Chikitsa which was translated and published in 14 languages, including English, as Nature Cure for Common Diseases.
